TORTUGA BAY

2,5 km. west of Pt. Ayora you will find TORTUGA BAY – one of the most beautiful beaches in the Galapagos and a favorite destination for local and visiting surfers. “Tortuga” is the spanish word for turtle, and the beach got it’s name because of the turtles that year after year return to lay thier eggs. Before going to and returning from TORTUGA BAY, you need to register. The office is open daily 06:00 – 17:30.

Enjoy the sun on the white sands and have a dip in the crystal clear water. But be very cautious – currents can be very strong.  Beyond the beach you will find a small bay where waters are much more calm. Walking around, you will often be able to see different species of rays, sea turtles, sharks, pelicans and even flamingos. Another good way to experience this beautiful bay is by kayak, which can usually be rented for around $5.
